Construction & Home

The Construction & Home calculators cover every stage of a build or renovation, from pouring the foundations to the final coat of paint. Structural tools work out concrete, cement, brick and mortar quantities; finishing tools size paint, tile, flooring, wallpaper and drywall; outdoor tools handle gravel, sand, pavers, roofing and fencing; and area, pool and renovation-cost tools pull the whole project into one budget.

Every calculator here publishes its formula, a worked example and a waste allowance, so you can order materials once and order right — in metric or imperial units, whichever your supplier quotes.

Concrete Calculator Calculate how much concrete you need for a slab, footing or driveway. Brick Calculator Calculate how many bricks and how much mortar you need for a wall. Cement Calculator Calculate cement bags, sand and gravel for any concrete or mortar mix ratio (1:2:4, 1:3:6, 1:4 and more). Paint Calculator Calculate how much paint you need: enter wall area, doors, windows and coats. Tile Calculator Calculate how many tiles and boxes you need for floors and walls. Flooring Calculator Calculate how many packs of laminate, vinyl or engineered wood flooring you need. Wallpaper Calculator Calculate how many wallpaper rolls you need. Drywall Calculator Calculate drywall sheets for walls and ceilings, plus screws and joint compound. Gravel Calculator Calculate how much gravel you need for driveways, paths and drainage. Sand Calculator Calculate how much sand you need for paver bases, screeds, mortar and sandpits. Pavers Calculator Calculate how many pavers you need for a patio, path or driveway, plus gravel base and bedding sand tonnage. Roofing Calculator Calculate roof area from house footprint and pitch, then convert to shingle bundles and underlayment rolls. Fence Calculator Calculate fence posts, panels, rails and post concrete for any fence length and post spacing. Room Area Calculator Calculate room floor area in square metres or feet, including alcoves, plus perimeter for skirting boards. Wall Area Calculator Calculate total wall area of a room minus doors and windows. Pool Volume Calculator Calculate pool water volume in litres or gallons for rectangular and round pools with sloped floors. Renovation Cost Calculator Estimate your home renovation budget from area and finish quality, with kitchen and bathroom options.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra material should I order for waste?

Add 5–10% for slabs, paint and flooring in simple rectangular rooms, and 10–15% for footings, tile and diagonal or herringbone layouts. Each calculator applies a sensible default and shows the waste line separately so you can adjust it.

Do these calculators support both metric and imperial units?

Yes. Measurement calculators have a metric/imperial toggle — enter dimensions in either system and the result is returned in the units your supplier uses, with the conversion shown.

Can I estimate a full renovation budget here?

The Renovation Cost Calculator applies cost-per-square-metre rates by quality tier and adds kitchens and bathrooms as fixed line items, plus a contingency, to give a realistic total before you open a single wall.

How do I calculate wall area for paint or tile?

Use the Wall Area Calculator: enter room length, width and ceiling height and it computes 2 × (length + width) × height, then deducts standard doors and windows automatically.

What is the difference between the concrete and cement calculators?

The Concrete Calculator gives total volume of finished concrete. The Cement Calculator breaks that volume into cement, sand and gravel quantities for mixing from raw ingredients.
